I have to say I approached canceling my AOL account with great trepidation, but it turned out to be not too bad. I called the toll-free number ending in 8008 (you can find it all over the internet) and when the robot prompt came, I said "cancellation". From there I was connected with someone in India, I would presume from the account. He of course tried to upsell me, resell me and every other thing, but I just kept repeating "cancel my account" over and over. Finally, after giving him my password and answer to the security question, he agreed to cancel the account. This all took only 5 minutes, not the hours you have heard about. I promptly received a cancellation email notice including the confirmation number. Not bad at all, of course, we'll see if they actually stop billing my account next month. One word of advice, cancel near the end of your billing cycle, they will tell you that you have paid in advance for the month and do not offer any refunds. Good luck!
